Teacher Aide

Function of Job

Under direct supervision, to provide assistance to a certified classroom teacher, teaching in a university school.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

A(n) Teacher Aide typically -

  1. assist in providing routine instruction to children under the supervision of the classroom teacher;
  2. assist in the preparation of instructional materials, i.e. audio-visual aids, displays, experiments, hand-out materials, examinations, attendance, etc.;
  3. supervise children engaged in university school playground and recreational activities;
  4. supervise children under the direction of the classroom teacher;
  5. performs other related duties as assigned, for which teacher certification is not required.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER

  1. Must be at least nineteen (19) years of age.
  2. Any one (1) of the following:
    1. High school diploma or GED and a score of 460 or higher on the ETS Parapro Assessment.
    2. High school diploma or GED and the following scores on the ACT Workkeys:
      • Applied Mathematics/Applied Math (with a score of 4)
      • Reading for information/Workplace Documents (with a score of 4)
    3. Associate’s degree or higher.
    4. Sixty (60) semester hours of coursework.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language.
  2. Skill in verbal and written communication.
  3. Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students and parents.
  4. Ability to work in classroom and school environment for extended periods of time including, but not limited to, sitting, standing, lifting, bending, and reaching.
  5. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all situations in or out of the school environment.
