Job Description

The Assistant Director is a full-time 12-month position in University Housing Services. This position is responsible for providing leadership level oversight for renovations, repairs, projects and risk management upgrades for the current housing portfolio of approximately 6,000 students in 7 residence halls and 2 apartment complexes. This includes responsibility for the operation of all facilities, which currently total 1,669,153 square feet of residence hall and apartment space. Further responsibilities include facilities related implementation of the long-range housing plan, capital planning, project management, equipment and furnishing replacement planning, move in and move out planning. This position also coordinates directly with the senior Housing leadership team.

The individual will train professional staff and student personnel with a strong focus on mentoring. This individual will utilize a broad knowledge of concepts and practices and provide significant direction and mentoring to both internal staff as well as campus partners. He/she will research, analyze, and recommend upgrades, renovations, projects, and process improvements, provide guidance, and establish goals/priorities for housing facilities with and for partners. This position represents the housing department on University-wide committees and division-wide networks.


1. Master's degree in College Student Personnel Administration (CSPA), Project or Construction Management, Building Science, or an appropriately related degree.
2. At least three (3) years of experience successfully managing a college or university housing facility.
3. Demonstrated experience managing a team of students and/or graduate assistants to accomplish facility operations.
4. Ability to communicate proficiently both verbally and in writing.
5. Understanding of risk management protocols and emergency action plans. Familiarity with inspecting facilities for risk management or maintenance concerns.
6. Demonstrated ability to effectively build relationships and consensus.
7. Demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Office 2010 suite or equivalent product.
8. Appreciation for and commitment to multiculturalism and diversity issues.
9. If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.
