Teaching Assistant for the Hearing Impaired

Job Description

The Special Education Teacher Assistant provides support for Thomas Metcalf School and/or University High School staff working with students that have hearing loss.

This position is subject to summer academic break layoff.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:
1. 30 semester hours of credit from a recognized institution of higher education

2. At least 19 years of age at the time of employment

If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, then employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.

PREFERRED:
1. Skill in signing and/or interpreting and ability to model appropriate use of language and speech when communicating.

2. Past experience working with students with hearing loss.

3. Knowledge of listening, language, and speech development.

4. Experience working with equipment to facilitate hearing.

5. Willingness to be flexible with work assignments and schedule.

6. Ability to transition quickly between classrooms throughout the building in a timely manner.

Salary

$13.68 - $17.78 per hour
