Job Description

The Department of Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality is one of 13 departments within the Division of Student Affairs. It provides the campus community and guests with high-quality, efficient, and innovative event services and dining options in a variety of settings dedicated to accentuating and enhancing the campus experience in a diverse community.

Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality is committed to providing an outstanding dining experience for students, faculty, staff, and guests. This position plays an integral role by directing all catering services for Presidential events and assisting with the supervision of foodservice for special events, banquets, receptions, coffee service, luncheons, cultural meals, and dinners. This position requires the ability to think on one's feet, make on the spot decisions, and be flexible in work schedule to meet the needs of our customers.

Additional Information
Required to drive University vehicles for catered events outside of the Bone Student Center on a regular basis.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Any one or combination totaling four (4) years (48 months) from the categories below:
A. Coursework in hospitality administration/management, culinary science, food services management, or a closely related field, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
B. Food service management work experience.
3. Valid Driver's License
4. A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.

Preferred Qualifications
1. One (1) year of catering supervisory experience.
2. Professional experience working executive or high profile events.
3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
4. Organizational and time management skills.
5. Strong customer service skills.
6. Ability to be flexible and meet deadlines.
7. Illinois Food Service Sanitation Certification. Certification required within six (6) months of employment.
8. Bassett certification (alcohol training course) required within the first six (6) months of employment.


Salary

$3,969 per month

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.

Illinois State University is authorized to do business within the State of Illinois. All work under this appointment is required to be performed from within the State of Illinois. If hired, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days from the start date for this position. Illinois residency requires proof of a valid Illinois driver’s license or a valid State of Illinois ID card. Failure to produce the required documentation within 180 calendar days will result in immediate termination of employment.
