Job Description

This position for an Educational Interpreter will provide interpreter services to students 3-21 years that are deaf and/or hard of hearing, in a variety of classroom settings, school events, and extra-curricular activities. Placement at Thomas Metcalf School or University High School is dependent upon student need and can change from year to year.

This position is subject to summer academic break layoff, mid-May through mid-August.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
High school graduation or GED
For public school pre K-12 Educational Interpreters, Statement of approval from the Illinois State Board of Education which shall be identified as valid for sign language interpreting pursuant to 23 IL Administrative Code Section 25.550 "including Interim approval".
Preferred Qualifications
Willingness to be flexible with work assignments and schedule.
Ability to transition quickly between classrooms throughout the building in a timely manner.
Ability to process high level and technical language quickly


Salary

$22.18 - $28.83 per hour

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
