Job Description

General Summary
The Application Administrator works within a team environment to maintain, optimize, and provide technical expertise for enterprise and business level information systems (Software Applications and Hardware Components). The incumbent oversees Enterprise and/or Business Applications acting as a Primary or Backup Administrator for off the shelf or open source business processing software tools for ITSM, Finance/Accounting Packages, Learning Management, Facilities, Scheduling, Planning, etc. Some of the larger software tools in our environment are Sakai, Ellucian Colleague, Cognos, SolarWinds, WebTMA, etc.

Primary responsibilities for this position include software installation, patching, performance tuning, configuration, documentation, and troubleshooting. In addition, the Application Administrator will assist in continuous improvement and innovation to enhance customer experience with the application

The Application Services (APPS) team develops, administers, and delivers quality application services to the University. They work on enterprise and business applications, such as PeopleSoft, ReggieNet, and others.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
1. Any combination totaling two years from the following categories:
a. Progressively more responsible work experience in IT-related profession
b. College course work in Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 60 semester hours or Associate's Degree equals one year
- 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor's Degree equals two years

2. Understanding of relational database concepts, administration, queries (SQL), and ability to use 1 or more common query/reporting tools (SQL Developer, TOAD, Cognos, SSRS, Crystal Reports)

3. Knowledge and experience working with different Server Operating Systems such as Windows Server (2008R2, 2012, or 2016), Red Hat Enterprise Linux

4. Knowledge of IT Infrastructure Hardware such as Servers, Storage, Networking, Backups

5. Strong customer service skills along with a desire for achieving excellence in customer satisfaction, process and product quality and reliability.

6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to conduct internal and external meetings

7. Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and changing business requirements

8. Foundation qualification in Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire

Desired Qualifications
1. Bachelor's or advanced degree in IT or related field from accredited institution

2. Three (3) or more years' work experience on Large Scale Software applications with more than 1000 users

3. Knowledge and experience with source control, issue tracking, and ITSM

4. Knowledge of Web Server Software such as Apache, IIS, Tomcat, WebLogic

5. Understanding of Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML)

6. Familiarity with Single Sign-On concepts

7. Strong project, analysis, and research skills

8. Experience with Multi-Factor authentication technologies

9. Development skills with scripting languages to leverage, improve, and automate processes (e.g. Powershell, Perl, R, etc.)

10. Virtual Computing experience using VMware Technologies

11. Cloud Computing experience (Amazon AWS, Azure, etc.)

12. Experience in software testing including creating test plans, creating test cases, test execution, and documenting defects

13. Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts verbally and in writing to management, technical staff, and customers in terms appropriate for each audience

14. Experience and ability to perform various system administration duties for assigned applications including installation, configuration, system backup, monitoring, and patch management

15. Experience in higher education administrative systems

16. Vendor Certifications like MCP, MCSA, MCSE, Oracle, Red Hat

17. Knowledge of web and object-oriented programming languages useful: HTML, XML/XSL, CSS, PHP, JAVA


Salary

$50,000 - $65,000 annual

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. The active register for this classification will be voided when the position is filled.
