Job Description

This position develops, enhances, and maintains network management, monitoring, and alerting systems that support the operational activities of the campus LAN and WLAND. This position is also a primary WAN, LAN, Datacenter network, VPN, and firewall administrator.

The Office of Technology Solutions provides information technology products and services for the administrative and business functions of Illinois State University. Through our Technology Support Center and our highly trained staff, Technology Solutions looks to improve the campus experience for all students, faculty, staff, and the rest of the campus community.

Infrastructure Operations and Networking (ION) manages the physical server, virtualization, and storage infrastructure for the University along with offering communication and collaboration support in areas such as email, shared storage, and SharePoint. Additionally, ION provides networking infrastructure and delivers audio and video communication capabilities to campus.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
1. One of the following:
a. In-progress bachelor’s degree with at least 100 semester hours earned in an Information Technology related field AND 1 year of progressively more responsible work experience in an IT related position.
b. Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Telecommunications Management, or related field from an accredited institution

2. Demonstrable experience relating to network infrastructure/architecture, Ethernet, routing protocols, and Internet connectivity.

3. Demonstrable experience and an understanding of wired and wireless LAN connectivity.

4. Demonstrable experience and a basic understanding of wired and wireless security issues.

5. Demonstrable experience with cabling systems (STP, UDP, and fiber optic), network topologies, TCP/IP, Ethernet, and corresponding hardware and software components (switches, routers, transceivers, access points, etc.).

6. Demonstrable experience working with network drawings, cable plant drawings, as well as technical manuals and materials.

7. Proficient spreadsheet and word processing skills.

8. Clear understanding of desktop and network operating systems (such as CISCO IOS and ARISTA EOS, Windows 10, and Macintosh OS) and applications.

9. Ability to work in a collaborative team environment

Desired Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s and/or Master's degree in Information Systems- Networking or related field.
2. 3-5 years working experience with network technologies such as: Ethernet, TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, Multicast, and cloud network technologies.
3. CCNA or equivalent networking certification.
4. 3-5 years working experience with Cisco IOS, Arista EOS, and CISCO ASA technologies.
5. Experience with network monitoring and alerting systems – preferably SolarWinds, Cacti, Cisco DNAC, Arista CVP, and Libre – as well as an understanding of the SNMP protocol.
6. Experience developing ACLs.
7. 3-5 years working experience with and advanced knowledge of Cisco VPN systems and the ability to troubleshoot them.
8. Experience with and a good understanding of firewall technologies.
9. Experience creating NAT and PAT systems.
10. Experience with DHCP and IP address management and a good understanding of the protocol.
11. Experience with DNS systems and a good understanding of the DNS Protocol.
12. Experience troubleshooting multicast technologies.
13. Experience interpreting network performance metrics and reports to help analyze and monitor network resource consumption.
14. 3-5 years working experience with Linux and Windows server administration experience
15. Experience with and a good understanding of PCI, HIPPA, and CJIS compliance regulations.
16. Experience working with an enterprise network in an education environment.
