Job Description

The Emergency Management, Assistant Director is a member of the Emergency Management department whose overall responsibility is to help administer the University's emergency management program.

This position will lead the University's Continuity of Operations (COOP) efforts by assisting departments in completing their plans, rolling them up into a University-wide plan and integrating with other efforts, including the Emergency Operations Plan.

In addition, this position assists with all areas of the Emergency Management program, including assisting to coordinate the University's preparedness and response efforts.

The Assistant Director of Emergency Management will be expected to set an example in fulfilling duties and responsibilities in a professional manner and to work in a collaborative and positive manner with Emergency Management staff, respecting each member's skills and capabilities, as well limitations.

This position collaborates with Environmental Health & Safety, the Police Department and others in fulfillment of responsibilities and assigned duties. This position will work with student employees and/or interns.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications
1. Bachelor's Degree in any field.
2. Three (3) years (36 months) of emergency management experience.
3. Successful completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-100 and IS-700 curriculum.
4. Possession of a valid/current State of Illinois driver's license.
5. No record of conviction of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Master's degree in emergency management, or related field.
2. Relevant industry certification. Potential examples include:
- Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP)
- Certified Emergency Manager (CEM)
- Associate Emergency Manager (AEM)
- FEMA Professional Development Series (PDS)
- Master Exercise Practitioner (MEP)
- State-issued emergency management certification
3. At least three years of emergency management and/or continuity experience within a Higher Education setting.
4. Experience in sports and/or event public safety coordination.
5. Knowledge in several areas of discipline, to include disaster planning, emergency management, emergency preparedness, National Incident Management System, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and other nationally recognized emergency response agencies and protocols.
6. Knowledge of current federal, state, and local regulations, policies and practices regarding emergency management requirements as they apply to a higher education facilities.
7. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate with individuals from various technical and educational backgrounds.
8. Demonstrated Leadership skills, including taking the initiative to develop effective and recognized programs.
9. Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationship with internal and external constituencies.
10. Operational problem solving/decision making experience.
11. Computer skills, to include: all Microsoft Office applications.
12. Ability to work, develop professionally, and adapt to challenges and changes present in a day-to-day operation of a department with responsibilities as diverse as Emergency Management.


Salary

$5,315 – $6,282 per month

Any other related certifications must be faxed, mailed, or delivered to Human Resources prior to the application deadline in order to receive the maximum eligible points on the exam.

In order to be eligible for Veteran's Preference points on the exam, appropriate military service documentation, such as a DD-214, may be faxed, mailed, delivered to Human Resources in order to receive the maximum eligible points.
