Job Description

This position assists the Thomas Metcalf Elementary School Preschool and/or Kindergarten classroom teacher in a variety of duties related to the teaching and management of the early childhood students using a variety of technology tools. This position provides instruction, uses assessment tools, completes paperwork, and meets the emotional and hygienic needs of the students. This position assists with benchmark testing procedures and with Before & After School duties. This position also attends Studio courses with students. This position may be asked to work with Metcalf students and teachers in other grade levels and with administrative support duties on days when Metcalf is closed but Illinois State University is open.

This position is subject to academic break layoff, late-May through mid-August.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
Must be at least nineteen (19) years of age.
Any one (1) of the following:
a. High school diploma or GED and a score of 460 or higher on the ETS Parapro Assessment.
b. High school diploma or GED and the following scores on the ACT Workkeys:
- Applied Mathematics/Applied Math (with a score of 4)
- Reading for information/Workplace Documents (with a score of 4)
c. Associate’s degree or higher.
d. Sixty (60) semester hours of coursework.
Preferred Qualifications
Career-related experience working with early childhood learners.
College coursework in early childhood/elementary education.
Basic technology skills and knowledgeable about current technology.
Possession of Educator License with Stipulations (PEL-S) OR Substitute Teacher License.


Salary

$14.00 - $18.11 per hour

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
