Job Description

Governors State University is seeking to hire a Director of Arts in Education and Community Engagement, who is a senior member of the staff of the Center for Performing Arts leadership team. Setting the direction for educational and multi-generational family cultural content (music, dance, theatre, curricular content, multi-disciplinary, etc.), the Director of Arts in Education (AIE) and Community Engagement utilizes the season offerings, university relationships, and community to leverage innovative programming and build our service. By engaging Chicago Southland communities in art through education, entertainment, performing arts, and dialogue, they ensure the Center serves as a cultural hub for diverse programmatic and educational experiences. The director seeks to build the Center as a cultural resource as a home for the largest arts-in-education program in the Southland.

The Director established a strategic direction of the AIE programming as well as creating developmental opportunities for AIE engagement within the university and community. While K-12 is a primary focus, the AIE serves the campus as a cultural liaison to building artistic integration throughout the Chicago Southland. They are responsible for managing all aspects of the AIE program that annually serves over 20,000 learners. They also support the development of educational activities, family events, and advise on mainstage programming with the Center team as we serve our stakeholders. Responsibilities include but are not limited to selection and booking of cultural AIE performances, contract negotiations, curriculum development, managing budgets, AIE operations, and collaboration with Center staff in executing the AIE model. Supervising camps and programs within the vision of AIE are also expected. Additional duties are assigned in agreement with continued growth of the AIE programming. Additional work in donorship and assisting our development officer in grant potential and distribution with educational donors.

The Director serves as the primary ambassador to promote the Center and foster engagement, industry, civic and campus collaborations to further AIE goals. Partners include but are not limited to educational, cultural, community, business and internal campus partners (TAPS, the Nate, Social Justice Initiative, Colleges, DIE Programming, The Center for Community Media, Department of Digital Learning and Digital Media) with continued focus on expansion and outreach.


Qualifications

1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
2. At least five (5) years of demonstrated experience as a leader/performer/educator for an arts-based organization or in arts programming.
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills; an authentic and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
4. Knowledge of project management principles and practices.
5. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and other design applications.

Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.


Salary

$60,979.00 Yearly
