Job Description
The Accountant II will be responsible for providing business support for the department. This includes, but is not limited to, implementing and maintaining financial data in alignment with GASB/GAAP policies, reviewing and approving accounts payable transactions, working with university partners on accounting issues, provide support for reconciling general ledger accounts, and performing other functions that support the operation of the Business Office.

The Comptroller’s Business Office, a unit of the Vice President for Finance and Planning division, is responsible for the oversight of financial transactions, reporting, and compliance. Departments within the Comptroller’s Office include Accounting, Cashiers, Collections, E-Commerce, Investments and Cash Management, Payroll, Purchasing, Redbird Card and Student Accounts. The Comptroller’s Office also manages the University’s banking and debt financing activities.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
1. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling three (3) years (36 months), from the categories below:
a. Work experience and/or training in Accounting or a closely related field
b. College course work and/or training in Accounting or a closely related field including 12 semester hours in accounting
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
2. A total of two (2) years (24 months) of experience in professional level accounting work consistent with the next lower level of this series.
Note: An advanced degree in accountancy or registration as a Certified Public Accountant may be substituted for one year of professional experience.

4. Ability to learn and interpret rules, regulations, and procedures of the University, Board of Trustees and State of Illinois.
5. Ability to analyze data and interpret standards to provide recommendations for implementation.
6. Ability to work and collaborate effectively with internal and external team members.
7. Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, etc.)
Salary
$24.10 - 26.15 per hour
