Job Description

Work location: College of Engineering - 1709 General Electric Road

This position supports facility operations by coordinating and facilitating a wide range of building maintenance activities. Work is accomplished through a combination of direct efforts, collaboration with skilled trades personnel, and coordination with external contractors. Responsibilities include responding to and managing work orders, maintaining maintenance and equipment records, ordering parts and materials, utilizing reference materials, and coordinating schedules for maintenance projects and other building-related needs. The position requires adherence to established policies, procedures, safety standards, and attendance expectations. The incumbent must communicate professionally with staff, residents, supervisors, and service providers, follow departmental reporting structures, and ensure timely, high-quality customer service.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent[CH1.1].
2. Three (3) years (36 months) of mechanical and/or electrical work experience. (This experience refers to building mechanical maintenance such as light carpentry and plumbing. It does not include machinery or farm implement maintenance.)
3. Valid driver's license.
4. A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.

In order to receive points on the exam for a professional certification/licensure related to the mechanical and/or electrical trades, a copy of the document must be submitted. They may be faxed, mailed, or delivered to Human Resources, in order to receive the maximum eligible points.
